Cosplays

Characters teach us things about ourselves.
Seeing their thoughts & actions gives us greater understanding for other perspectives.
Sometimes, certain characters become a part of our own story, and it's fun to step into their shoes.

Sophie Hatter
from Howl's Moving Castle
author: Diana Wynne Jones
movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki

I first read the book in junior high, and 1000% related to Sophie. When the movie came out in 2004, I of course went to see it, and then proceeded to watch everything ever done by Studio Ghibli. She is the fictional character that I see the most 'me' in.
Lady Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama
from the Custard Protocol series
author: Gail Carriger

Prudence is a fierce, rule-breaking airship captain who follows her interests, makes her own decisions, makes world-changing discoveries along the way, and looks great doing it. I enjoy her spirit and sass immensely, not to mention Ms. Carriger's humor. I took a slightly less Victorian approach to this costume.

Jillian Holtzmann
from Ghostbusters

I can't take credit for this one. The proton pack was actually built by my husband (who is a practical fX artist) for some promotions Sony was doing around the time of the ghostbuster's film release. I just got to model it. :-)
San
from Princess Mononoke
directed by Hayao Miyazaki

This was such a fun cosplay, both to make and to wear. San fights hard to protect her home in the face of some insurmountable odds.

Bonus cosplay here is my partner Kevin as TK-49 from Oblivion.
Spoo from the Custard Protocol series
author: Gail Carriger

Spoo is a sootie who works in the boiler room of an airship. She's tough, ingenious, loyal to her lady captain, and perhaps a little too excited about getting to man the airship's gatling gun.

This cosplay was thrown together on an impulse at 10pm the night before a con. After perusing the author's pinterest board for Spoo & Virgil, I raided both my closet and my partner's props, and ended up with something I was pretty happy with. Having a built-in prop shop for a partner has it's perks sometimes. ;)

Drizella (wicked step-sister)

from Cinderella

My best friend and I did this cosplay of the wicked step-sisters Anastasia & Drizella for Mickey's Halloween Party in October 2017. Sometimes it's a lot of fun to be a baddie. Especially when they're fancy.

Obviously I'm not a pro, this is just something I do for fun. I'll add more as I make them, or when I dig through enough files to find the photos & have time to update!  Check back soon. ;-)
